Saudi Government must reconstruct Jannatul Baqi :MSO

New Delhi: 16th Aug 2013.The 8th Shawwal is demolition day of Jannatul Baqi cemetery in Madina Shareef  Saudi Arabia which has caused continuous grief and pain the hearts of millions of Muslims all over the world irrespective of sects. The Saudi act of demolition of pious cemetery in which Holy companions and family members of Holy Prophet are buried is an act of high level of condemnation. Successive governments after Khilafate Rashida preserved them and protected them through out history.

Jannatul baqi Jannatul Baqi

(1) All Islamic Heritage buildings destroyed by Saudi Royal Family should be restored to their pre 1900 position. Particularly, we want memorials of Jannatul Baqi in Madinah, and Jannatul Mu’alla in Makka without wasting any more time.

(2) Saudi authorities should publicly apologize to the Muslim world for the destruction of the Islamic Heritage and insults meted out to Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم), his family members and Sahabah, during their dynastic rule. The wrongs committed in the past should be apologized publicly and a new beginning made by restoring the Baqi and Mu’alla sanctuaries and other heritage buildings. They should initiate a master plan to restore all Islamic Heritage buildings that have been destroyed in Arabia.

(3) Killing of Muslims in several Muslim countries  specially in Egypt by Egyptian government should  be stopped immediately and Muslims’ life and property be protected in the whole world.

(4) Shia -Sunni sectarianism must not be encouraged and Saudi govt. through its Imams must  build an atmosphere of harmony and brotherhood in Muslim World. It must leave Anti-Iranian  and Pro U.S Policies.

(5)Saudi Mutawwa Police must not interfere in the prayers of Sunni-Shia piligrims at Holy Places in the name of Shirk and Biddah. They must understand traditional majority Muslims don’t follow their ideology of Salafism.

In the aftermath of Egypt’s revolution, many moderate Muslims have expressed anxiety over the influence of the Muslim Brotherhood in the country’s political and social life, while human rights monitors have warned against discrimination and attacks on the Coptic Christian minority.

But something else long feared has happened there as well. According to the authoritative newspaper Al-Masry Al-Youm, 16 historic mosques in Alexandria belonging to Sufi orders have been marked for destruction by Salafis. The newspaper notes that Alexandria has 40 mosques associated with Sufis, and is the headquarters for 36 Sufi groups. Half a million Sufis live in the city, out of a municipal total of four million people.

Aggression against the Sufis in Egypt has included a raid on Alexandria’s most distinguished mosque, named for, and housing, the tomb of the 13th century Sufi, al-Mursi Abu’l Abbas. Born in the then-Muslim city of Murcia in southeastern Spain, al-Mursi emigrated to Alexandria. He was a disciple of and successor to the Sufi sheikh Abu’l Hassan al-Shadhili, founder of the powerful Shadhili Sufi order, which remains influential throughout north Africa, south Asia, the Muslim communities of the Indian Ocean, and Indonesia.

Salafis have alleged that Sufis are agents of the west as well as heretics. The extremists want to take control of Sufi mosques, after they destroy shrines within their precincts. One object of their manoeuvres is the Qaed Ibrahim mosque in Alexandria, which was the site of mass protests, involving thousands of people, co-ordinated with those in Cairo’s Tahrir Square, during the movement against ex-president Hosni Mubarak.

The Alexandrian Sufi leader sheikh Gaber Kasem al-Kholy has said: “Coptic Christians are a main target for those extremists, but we need to speak out about the suffering of the Sufi people. We have a considerable number of followers, and we are willing and able to protect Egypt’s legacy.”

The devastation of Sufi shrines in Alexandria has already led to counter demonstrations in the city. Al-Kholy has announced that local committees would be formed to protect Sufi sites, and has distributed forms soliciting youth to serve as volunteers. He said the Sufis have submitted a memorandum to the Egyptian military enumerating 20 Sufi institutions that had been attacked.

On April 5, according to Al-Masry Al-Youm, Sufi sheikh Mohamed Alaa Abul Azayem, of the Azeemia Sufi order, announced that it would found an “Egyptian Liberation party” to combat both the Muslim Brotherhood and the Salafi fundamentalists if either took power and threatened the Sufis. The political project has also involved members of the National Association for Change, the reformist Ibn Khaldun Center for Development Studies, and the Islamic Popular Leadership Organisation.

In addition, Sufi residents of the Egyptian governorates of al-Minufyia and Aswan have entered complaints with the government’s Ministry of Islamic Endowments and public prosecutors, demanding state protection for Sufi structures, against radical encroachment. Radicals in Al-Minufiya had previously assaulted Coptic citizens. Violation of Sufi rights has also been reported in the al-Buharya governorate.

In the governorate of al-Qalyubiya, two Salafis were arrested at the end of March after a group of their followers razed five local shrines. Fighting broke out with townspeople who gathered to protect the tombs.

Egyptian Sufis have described themselves as “soldiers of God” responsible for the defence of shrines and tombs. A protest against radical violence was called last week by Egypt’s Supreme Council of Sufi Orders, at the Hussein mosque in Cairo, and was joined by a leader of the Shia Muslim minority, Muhammad al-Derini.

MawlidUnanabi 2011or birthday of prophet Muhammad S.A.W

4 Feb

In the name of Allah, Most Beneficent, Most Merciful

All praise is due to Allah who has guided us to follow the Noble Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam), the leader of the Messengers; Who has granted us the capacity to remain steadfast on the pillars and essential principles of Deen Al-Islam; Who has made it easy for us to follow the footsteps and way of our pious predecessors, to the extent that our hearts have been illuminated with the knowledge of the Shari’ah and the conclusive argument in favour of the evident truth; and Who has kept our internal souls free from the contamination of falsehood.

We praise and thank Him for having blessed us with the light of certainty, and for having granted us strength and courage to continuously hold fast to His strong rope. These favours are all out of His Bounty and Grace. We testify that there is no deity besides Almighty Allah, Who is alone, and has no partner or associates, and that, without doubt, our Beloved Muhammad (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) is the Servant and Messenger of Allah, the Leader of those who are first and those who are last. May Allah send His Salaams and Blessings upon him, his Household and Progeny, his Companions and those who follow their path until the Day of Judgement (ridwanullahi ta’ala ajma’in).

Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala says in the Holy Qur’an: “O ye who believe! Fear Allah, and (always) say a word directed to the Right”.

Allah’s Messenger (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said: “Whoever believes in Allah and the Hereafter should either say what is good, or otherwise remain silent”.

It is every Muslim’s duty to show people the truth in anticipation that they would follow it clearly and evidently and certainly not blindly. For truth is as clear as the sun in broad daylight. This brief introduction is due to what we have been hearing recently, as far as the celebration of the birthday of our Beloved Prophet Muhammad (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) is concerned. Falsehood is regrettably attributed to such a noble event and mischief is stated as to the illegitimacy of celebrating such an esteemed occasion. Thus leaving ordinary people in a state of confusion not knowing whether they should partake in celebrating the event or otherwise. This is so, since the people who raise objection to the Meelad feel that they are at liberty to fabricate events in Islamic history and the traditions of our Holy Prophet Muhammad (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam).

Therefore, we felt that it is incumbent upon us, and upon those who possess knowledge of Shari’ah, to clearly explain to the Muslim masses the truth about Milad.

PART ONE: IGNORANCE AND LITTLE KNOWLEDGE

The Holy Prophet Muhammad (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said: “Whoever brings forth an innovation into our religion which is not part of it, it is rejected”.

The Holy Prophet Muhammad (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) also said: “Beware of inventive matters for every invention is an innovation and every innovation is evil”.

Those who quote these two Ahadith claim that the word “Kul” which means “EVERY” or “ALL” which is mentioned in the above two Ahadith is used to include everything, i.e. all kinds of innovations or “Bid’ah” without any exception. They conclude therefore, that all innovations are “evil”.

By stating such an ill-fated statement, they have in fact accused the scholars (Ulema) of the Muslim World of committing “evil” innovations, particularly Hadrat Umar (radi Allahu anhu). However, they quickly respond and say: No, we did not mean the Companions (Sahaba Ikraam). In reply to that we say, yes, indeed you did so, because you said “every” or “all” innovations are “evil”.

And you have rejected what the Holy Prophet Muhammad (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) himself approved, i.e.”Tarawih Prayers”.

We will now quote before you many actions which were not carried out during the life of Prophet Muhammad (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) but were in fact done following his demise by his Companions (ridwanullahi ta’ala ajma’in).

1. THE ISSUE OF COMPILING THE QUR’AN IN ONE BOOK

Hadrat Zaid bin Thabit (radi Allahu anhu) said: Prophet Muhammad (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) had passed away and the Qur’an has not been compiled into one book! In fact, it was Hadrat Umar who told Hadrat Abu-Bakr (radi Allahu anhuma) to collect the Qur’an. Hadrat Abu-Bakr (radi Allahu anhu) was hesitant at first and he actually said, “How could we do something which the Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) himself never did”. Hadrat Umar (radi Allahu anhu) replied, “BUT BY ALLAH IT IS A GOOD THING”. Hadrat Zaid then said Hadrat Umar kept coming back and forth until Hadrat Abu-Bakr (radi Allahu anhuma) sent after him and assigned him the task of compiling the Qur’an. (Bukhari Shareef)

2. PROPHET IBRAHIM’S STATION (FOOTPRINT).

Imam Baihaqi (radi Allahu anhu) said that Bibi Ayesha (radi Allahu anha), a wife of the Holy Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said that Prophet Ibrahim’s (alaihis-salaam) Station (Footprint) was attached to “KAABA” during the Prophet’s and Abu-Bakr’s time. It was not until the time of Hazrat Umar (radi Allahu anhuma) who changed its original position. Ibn Hajar (radi Allahu anhu), the great Muhaddith said: None of the companions raised any objection against Hazrat Umar (radi Allahu anhu) for doing so and he was the first person to cover Prophet Ibrahim’s (alaihis-salaam) Station (Footprint) in the state it is now.

3. THE INTRODUCTION OF THE SECOND AZAAN DURING FRIDAY PRAYER

Imam Baihaqi narrated that Sayyiduna Al-Saa’eb bin Zaid (radi Allahu anhuma) said: The first call (Azaan) for Friday Prayer commenced when the Imam sat on the Pulpit (Mimbar). This was the practice during the Prophet’s, Hazrat Abu-Bakr’s and Hazrat Umar’s time. But when Hazrat Uthman came, he introduced the second Azaan (radi Allahu anhuma).

4. SENDING PRAISE AND SALAAMS UPON THE PROPHET (SALLAL LAAHU ALAIHI WASALLAM)

This was first introduced by Hazrat Ali (radi Allahu anhu) and he used to teach it to people of his time. Ibn Jabir mentioned that in his book called “Tah’theeb Al-Aa’thar” so did Imam Tabari, Ibi Assem and Yaqoub bin Shaibah (radi Allahu anhuma).

5. THE ADDITION MADE BY IBN MASOUD TO TASHA’HUD

Imam Tabari said that Ibn Masoud (radi Allahu anhuma) used to read after saying “As Salaam Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakaatuhu”, “As Salaam Alaina Min Rabenna” (Peace be upon us from our Lord).

6. THE INTRODUCTION OF READING “BISMILLAH AL-RAHMAN AL-RAHIM” BEFORE COMMENCING TASHA’HUD.

Bukhari and Muslim both narrated that Ibn Umar (radi Allahu anhuma) use to read “Bimillah Al-Rahman Al-Rahim” before Tasha’hud.

All the above Companions have in fact introduced innovations which they have deemed beneficial and which were not practised during the life of the Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam). Hence, that these innovations where brought about in acts of worship! What then would you say about these renowned Companions? Are they going to be classified among those who practise “evil” innovations!

As for their (Bin Baaz, etc.) other statement which is even worse that the first one, where it is alleged by them that in the religion of Islam there is no such thing as “good innovation” or “Bid’ah”.

Let us quote the opinion of the most renowned scholars of Islam regarding this issue.

1. Imam Al-Hafiz Al-Nawawi (radi Allahu anhu) said in Vol.6, p.21 in his “Commentary on Sahih Al-Bukhari”: What the Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) meant when he said “very” or “all” innovations, is that it is general but restricted, i.e. that most innovations are “evil” but not “all”. In “Tahdhib Al-Asma wal Lugat” Bid’ah is explained as follows:

“Bid’ah in Shari’ah is the invention of that which was not there in the period of the Messenger of Allah, and it is divided into two categories Hasanah (or good) and Qabihah (or evil)”.

2. Ibn Hajar Al-Asqalani (radi Allahu anhu) who explained Sahih Al-Bukhari said: “Every action which was not in practice at the Prophet’s time is called or known as Innovation, however, there are those which are classified as ‘Good’ and there are those which are contrary to that”.

3. Imam Abu-Na’im said that he heard Imam Ibrahim Al-Junaid say that he heard Imam Shafi’i (radi Allahu anhuma) say: “The new things that are brought about are two kinds. One kind is that which brought about, inconsistent with something in the Qur’an or the Sunnah or with some Athaar or I’jma. This the category of Bid’ah Dalalah (heretic innovation). The second kind is that which is brought about from good things which are consistent with any of the above”.

4. Imam of Imams Izzuddin Ibn Abd al-Salaam (radi Allahu anhu) writes in his book “Al-Qawa’aid”: “Bid’ah is divided into Wajib, Haram, Mandub, Makruh and Mabah. And the way to know which category it belongs to, is to examine it together with the laws of Shari’ah. If it falls in with the laws that deal with what is Wajib, then it is Wajib. If with those laws that deal with Haram, then it is Haram. If with the laws dealing with what is Mandub, then it is Mandub. If with the laws dealing with what is Makruh, then it is Makruh. If with the laws dealing with what is Mubah, then it is Mubah”.

Following the examination of the statements of these highly renowned scholars of Islam, we ask: How is it then that what is alleged that the word “Kul” or “every” includes all kinds of innovations or “Bid’ah” regardless? And where in the religion of Islam is it stated that there is no “good Bid’ah” or “good innovation”. Hence, the Messenger of Allah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) has said: “Whoever introduces a good innovation into the religion of Islam, will be granted due reward for it and the reward of those who acts upon it without any reduction in their deeds”.

From this hadith we find that every Muslim is entitled to introduce a “good Bid’ah or innovation” as long as it conforms with the test mentioned earlier, even though the Messenger of Allah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) did not do it, preach it or practice, in order that he/she could increase the deeds of goodness and rewards.

PART TWO: THE BEGINNING OF THE CELEBRATION OF MILAD UN NABBI (SAW)

As we all know as matter of fact, that when ever people want to promote and advance their ways, they pave the way to spread their falsehood among the Muslims masses and those who have very limited knowledge by misquoting what the Imams of Islam have stated or written. It is alleged by those people who disagree with Meelad that Imam Ibn Kathir (radi Allahu anhu) stated in his book “Al-Bi’dayah Wa Ni’hayah” in Vol.11, p. 172 the following: “It was the Fatimy Government which ruled Egypt from 357-567 who was responsible for the celebration of Meelad”.

We say in reply to the above that after having consulted the above reference we found that it was a sheer lie, for we read that page and we found that the above is but allegations, deceit and dishonesty when quoting the renowned scholars of Islam. However, if they insist on the above, we demand that they produce it before us if there is any truth in what they allege!

Allow me now to quote before you what Imam Ibn Kathir (radi Allahu anhu) has actually said in the same book “Al-Bi’dayah” Vol.13, p. 136: “Sultan Muzaffar used to arrange the celebration of the Meelad Shareef with honour, glory, dignity and grandeur. In this connection he used to organise a magnificent festival”. Then he said in praise of that man: “He was a pure-hearted, brave and wise Aalim (Scholar) and a just ruler, may Allah shower His Mercy upon him and grant him an exalted status.”

Shaikh Abu-Khattab Ibn Dihyah (radi Allahu anhu) also wrote a book for him on the Meelad Shareef entitled “Enlightenment on the Birthday of the Bearer of Good News, the Warner”. For this book Sultan Muzaffar awarded him a gift of one thousand Dinars. He then said: “Every year his expenditure on the Meelad Shareef amounted to three hundred thousand Dinars”.

Examine carefully, dear brother/sister, such praise which has been conferred by Ibn Kathir upon that man, where he described him as “a wise Aalim, brave and pure-hearted” and then concluded by saying “may Allah shower his Mercy upon him and grant him an exalted status”. He did not say he was a corrupt or evil, he did not say he was committing “Bid’ah” or deeds which leads a person to be doomed, as it is alleged by those who reject the celebration of Meelad Shareef.

I refer you to that very reference which has been quoted to read further for yourselves what Imam Ibn Kathir (radi Allahu anhu) has added in praise of this Sultan.

I would strongly recommend as well that you consult what Imam Zahabi (radi Allahu anhu) in his book “Biography of the Elites”, Vol. 22, p. 336 has said in description of this Sultan: “Sultan Al-Muzaffar was humble, generous, follower of the Prophet’s way and he liked the scholars and narrators of Hadith”.

POINT TWO

VIEWPOINT OF THE IMAMS OF THE MUSLIM UMMAH ON THE

CELEBRATION OF MILAD UN NABI.

1. Imam Al-Hafiz Al-Suyuti (radi Allahu anhu) in his famous book “Al-Hawii Lil-Fatawii” allocated a special chapter on that topic and named it “The Excellence of Objective in Celebrating the Mawlid” where he said: The question under consideration is what the verdict of the Shari’ah on celebrating the Holy Birthday of the Noble Prophet during the month of Rabbi-ul-Awwal. From the point of view of Shari’ah is this a praiseworthy action or a blameworthy one? And do those who arrange such celebration receive blessings or not?

He said: “The reply to this question is that in my view the Meelad Shareef (Celebration of the Birthday of the Noble Prophet – sallal laahu alaihi wasallam – is in fact such an occasion of happiness on which people assemble and recite the Holy Qu’ran to the extent that is easy. Then they relate the prophecies concerning the appearance of the Noble Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) that have been transmitted in Ahadith and Athar, and the miraculous events and signs that took place on his birth. Then food is set before them and according to their desire they partake thereof to satisfaction. This festival of celebrating the birthday of the Noble Prophet is a Bid’ah Hasanah (good innovation) and those arranging it will get blessing, since in such a celebration is found the expression of joy and happiness at the greatness and eminence of the Noble Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) and his birth”.

2. Even Ibn Tay’miah said in his book “Necessity of the Right Path”, p. 266, 5th line from the bottom of that page, published by Dar Al-Hadith, the following: “As far as what people do during the Meelad, either as a rival celebration to that which the Christian do during the time of Christ’s birthday or as an expression of their love and admiration and a sign of praise for the Noble Prophet, Allah will surely reward them for such Ij’tiha”. He then said: “Although Meelad was not practised by (Salaf), they should have done so since there was no objection against it from the Shari’ah point of view”.

And we certainly only celebrate Meelad out of love and admiration to the Prophet of all Mankind.

3. Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar (radi Allahu anhu) was asked, same reference of Imam Suyuti (radi Allahu anhu), about Meelad Shareef. His reply was: “Meelad Shareef is, in fact, and innovation, which was not transmitted from any pious predecessor in the first three centuries. Nevertheless, both acts of virtue as well as acts of abomination are found in it (i.e. sometimes acts of virtue are found therein and sometimes acts of abomination). If in the Meelad Shareef only acts of virtue are done and acts of abomination are abstained from, then the Meelad Shareef is a Bid’ah Hasanah (good innovation), otherwise not.” He then added “… to do any virtuous act and to observe it annually as means of recollection for any special day on which Allah Ta’ala has bestowed any favour or removed any calamity is a form of showing gratitude to Allah. Gratitude to Allah Ta’ala is expressed through different kinds of Ibaadah (worship) -prostration and standing in prayer, charity and recitation of the Holy Qu’ran. And what is a greater favour from Allah can there be than the appearance of the Prophet of Mercy (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) on this day (i.e. 12th of Rabbi-ul-Awwal)?”

Some people do not limit it and celebrate the Meelad Shareef on any day of Rabbi-ul-Awwal. Nay, some people have extended it even more and increased the period to the whole year. According to the latter, the Meelad Shareef can be celebrated on any day of the year. The objective here is the same, i.e. to rejoice at and celebrate the Holy Birth of the Noble Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam).

4. Imam Abu-Bakr Abdullah Al-Demashqi (radi Allahu anhu) compiled a number of books on the subject and called them “Collection of Traditions on the Birth of the Chosen Prophet”, “The Pure Expression on the Birthday of the Best of Creations” and “The Spring for the Thirsty One on the Birth of the Rightly Guided”.

5. Imam Al-Hafiz Al-Iraqi (radi Allahu anhu) wrote a book and called it “The Pure Spring on the Sublime Birth”.

6. Imam Ibn Dahyah (radi Allahu anhu) wrote a book and called it “Enlightenment on the Birthday of the Bearer of Good News, The Warner”.

7. Imam Mulla Ali Qari (radi Allahu anhu) wrote a book and called it “The Quenching Spring on the Birthday of the Prophet”.

8. Imam Shams Ul-Din bin Naser Al-Dumashqi (radi Allahu anhu), said in his book “The Spring for the Thirsty One on the Birth of the Rightly Guided” about the story of Abu Lahab that he will receive a light punishment every Monday for expressing joy at the birth of the Noble Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) on that day. The Imam said the following verse of poetry, the translation of the above is:

If such Kafir was denounced in the (Qur’an)

And perished are his hands, and in the Flames is his eternal abode

It is narrated that every Monday His torment is made easy for his Joy at the Birth of Ahmad

What is the expectation then of a servant who spent all his life Happy with the Arrival of Ahmad and died on the Oneness of Allah.

9. Imam Shams Ul-Din Ibn al-Jazri (radi Allahu anhu), the Imam of Reciters, wrote a book and named it “The Scent of Notification on the Blessed Birthday”.

10. Imam Al-Hafiz Ibn Al-Jawzi (radi Allahu anhu), said in the description of Meelad: “Peace and Tranquillity takes over during that year and a good glad tiding to obtain your wish and inspiration”.

11. Imam Abu-Shamah, The Sheik of Al Hafiz Al Nawawi (radi Allahu anhuma), said: “The best of the innovations of our times is what is carried out on the day of corresponding to the birthday of our Beloved Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam), where people give out donations, practice what is right, express their joy and happiness, in doing so is surely a sign of love and admiration for the Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam)”.

12. Imam Al-Hafiz Al-Qastalani (radi Allahu anhu), who gave commentary on Sahih Bukhari, said: “May Allah shower his Mercy upon a person who takes the days of the month of Rabbi-ul-Awwal, in which the Noble Prophet (radi Allahu anhu) was born, as days of feast and celebration for doing so is the best cure for the heart of an ailing person.”

Following all of the above, there is yet another false accusation, i.e. THOSE WHO OPPOSE MILAD CLAIM THAT IF MEELAD WAS PART OF “DEEN”, THEN SURELY THE PROPHET (SALLAL LAAHU ALAIHI WASALLAM) WOULD HAVE DONE IT HIMSELF AND HE WOULD HAVE MADE IT CLEAR FOR THE PEOPLE TO CELEBRATE IT?

THE REPLY IS:

Not everything which the Prophet or his Companions did not do would ultimately make things “Haraam”. Since the Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) himself said: “He who introduces a new good Sunnah in Islam will be rewarded for it …”

Imam Shafi’i (radi Allahu anhu) said: “Anything which enjoys the backing of Shari’ah cannot be an innovation even if the Companions did not practice it, because their abstention from doing something may have been due to a particular reason which was there at that time, or they have left it to something which happens to be better, or perhaps news about a particular them did not reach them all”.

Therefore, whosoever alleges that this thing is Haraam on the basis that the Noble Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) did not practice it, then surely he has alleged something which has no foundation or backing in Shari’ah and thus his allegation is refuted and rejected.

FINALLY

It should be noted that, according to your allegations you have stated, i.e. That every person who innovates or brings about into action that which the Prophet or the Companion did not do, means that this person has in fact introduced something bad into the religion, will be interpreted that the Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) did not fulfil “the Deen” for his “Umah” and the Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) did not convey what was ought to be conveyed to the Muslims! and whoever believes in that is a “Kaafir”.

We say, “We condemn you from your own words”, because you have brought and practised so many innovation which the Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) or the Companions never practised nor preached, not even “Salaf” ever do them.

To name just a few and not all:

1. To gather collectively the Muslims to pray behind one Imam during “Tarawih Prayers”, at the two Sacred Mosques and other Mosques.

2. Reading the “Du’s” at the conclusion of finishing the recitation of the Holy Qur’an during “Tarawih Prayers” and “Tahajjud Prayers”.

3. Allocating the 27th night of Ramadaan to recite the whole Quran at the two Sacred Mosques.

4. The Caller for Azaan saying when announcing to the people the commencement of the Tarawih Prayers the following, “Raise up for Tarawih Prayers, May Allah reward you”.

5. Claiming that “Tarawih Prayers or Divinity” is divided into three Parts.

Is this a Prophetic saying, or the saying of one of the Companions or of the Four Imams? And many other things such as the formation of the committees for “Enjoying what is Good and Forbidding what is Evil”, establishment of universities, Association for memorisation of the Holy Quran, Offices of Dawah and “Special Week of Masha’yekh”. Hence, we do not raise objections to these things since they are in place for serving Islam. Let us add that these things are all “Bid’ah” but we acknowledge that they are “good Bid’ah”.

REFUTATION OF THE FINAL OBJECTION?

It is alleged that since the Birthday of the Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) is the same as his demise, therefore, expressing joy on that day is no better than expressing grieve over his demise and if the religion of Islam was to be applied on the basis of one’s opinion, then we are bound to show grief during this day and not happiness!

I will leave the rebut of such crooked argument to none other than Imam Suyuti (radi Allahu anhu) himself, where he said in his famous book “Al-Hawaii Lil-Fatawii”, p. 193, the following: “The birthday of the Noble Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) is the greatest favour of Allah granted to us, and that his demise is the greatest affliction for us. However, Shari’ah has encouraged us to show gratitude for favours and has taught us to observe patient perserverence, silence and calm in the face of afflictions. The Shari’ah has ordered us to offer “Aqiqa” on the birth of a child which is an expression of happiness and gratitude for favours and has taught us to observe patience, silence and calm in the face of afflictions. But the Shari’ah has not ordered us to sacrifice an animal on the death of someone nor to do such action. On the contrary, it has prohibited wailing and lamentation. Thus, the laws of Shari’ah indicate that to exhibit happiness in this Holy month in connection with the birth of the Noble Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam), is better than showing grief at his demise.”

CONCLUSION

The Noble Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasalalm) foretold about the coming of such people in the Hadith narrated by “Abu-Yaa’li” on the authority of “Huzaifah” who said:

The Noble Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said: “What I fear most for you, is a man who reads the Qur’an until such time when the blessing of Qur’an is reflected on him and he takes Islam as his Cloak … he then turns around and strips himself off from Islam and then tosses it away behind his back, then he heads quickly towards his neighbour with his sword unsheathed and he calls him a ‘Mushrik’” I said: “O, Prophet of Allah! Who is more worthy of being called a Mushrik the one being attacked or the attacker”. He replied, “It is indeed the attacker.”

To end this research on a happy note let me draw your attention to the following Hadith: The Noble Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) has himself indicated the excellence of this great month and day in reply to a questioner. When the questioner wanted to find out about fasting on Mondays, the Noble Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) replied:

“That is the day on which I was BORN”.

Wahabi and Wahabism ; An Islamic analysis

A Warning to Muslims against the

Bid’ahs Preached by Muhammad Ibn

‘Abdi-l-Wahhab

by Shaykh Abdul Hadi Palazzi

Praised by Allah, Lord of the worlds, and blessing and peace upon the best of His creatures, the Prophet Muhammad Ibn ‘Abdi-Llah, upon his noble family, his pure wives, his purified Sahabahs and upon all those who follow his path till the Day of resurrection. This paper has been compiled under the supervision of Shaykh Abdul Hadi Palazzi, Director of the Cultural Institute of the Italian Islamic Community as a mean to seek Allah’s favor and as a warning against the founder of the heretic Wahhabi-Salafi cult and against the bid’ahs he preached. May Allah save this Ummah from bid‘ahs and dalalah, and preserve us on the right path followed by Asyaduna al-akramin. Amin.

Rasul-Ullah (sall-Allahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Allahumma, bless Yemen, Allahumma, bless Sham.” He was asked: “And what about Najd?” He answered: “From Najd Shaytan’s horn will rise.”

He (sall-Allahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) also said: “Beware of Shaykhu-n-Najdi, since he is Shaytan.”

He (sall-Allahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) also said: “There will be people who come from the eastern side of Arabia who will recite Qur’an, but their recitation will not pass beyond their collarbones. They will go out of Islam as swiftly as the arrow goes through the prey. Their sign is shaving their heads.”

Muhammad Ibn ‘Abdi-l-Wahhab was a descendent of the Bani Tamim tribe and was born in the Uyaynah village (Najd) in 1111 H. (1699 M.). His father was a learnt Hanbali scholar, and sent him to study tafsir, fiqh and tasawwuf in Mecca, Medina, Baghdad, Basrah and Damascus, as well as in Iran and India. His attitude, from the beginning, was very much polemic, and he took active part in scholarly debates. During this period, he received the surname “Shaykhu-n-Najdi”. He contacted many Shaykhs of tasawwuf, and tried his best to be appointed as a khalifah. This request of his, however, was not accepted, since the Shaykhs realized he was too must influenced by kibr and by the desire to become a leader.

At the age of thirty-two he came back to Najd and started working as a teacher for Bedouins; he also started exercising ijtihad, and accusing Sunni scholars and Ahlu-t-tasawwuf of bid‘ahs. In 1143 H. (1730 M.) he met a leader of a gang of marauders called Muhammad Ibn Sa’ud, whose main activity was plundering travelers in the desert of Najd. Since most of those Bedouins living in Dar’iyyah were completely unlearnt, Ibn ‘Abdi-l-Wahhab could easily convict them of his theories; Ibn Sa’ud and him made an agreement, according to which the former was appointed as the “Amir”, and the latter as the “Shaykh”. The “Shaykh declared he was ready to publish “fatawa” where non-Wahhabi Muslims were described as apostates and idol-worshippers; this point of view obviously represented a sort of “religious justification” for Ibn Sa‘ud’s gang. They were not, anymore, robbers and criminals, but “mujahids”, authorized to kill “kuffars”, to plunder their properties and to rape their women.

The “Shaykh” also appointed some “wakils” and send them to preach Wahhabism in Mecca, but scholars living in the Blessed City were ready in understanding how dangerous this doctrine was. Sayyid Ahmad Zayni Dahlan as-Shafi‘i (ramimah-Ullah) was the Chief Mufti of Mecca. In wrote in the book “Al-Futuhatu-l-Islamiyyah”:

“To deceive the ‘ulemas in Mecca and Medina, those people sent emissaries in al-Haramayn, but these missionaries were not able to answer questions asked by Sunni scholars. It became evident that they were ignorant bid‘ah holders. Muftis of the four madhhabs wrote a fatwa that declared them kuffars, and this document was distributed in the whole Jazirah. The Amir of Mecca, Sharif Mas‘ud Ibn Sa‘id, ordered that the Wahhabis should be imprisoned. Some Wahhabis fled to Dar‘iyyah and informed their leader of what was happening.”

Muhammad Ibn ‘Abdi-l-Wahhab’s brother, Sulayman Ibn ‘Abdi-l-Wahhab (ramimah-Ullah), studied his works and tried his best to invite him to tawbah. At least, when he realized verbal admonitions had no effect, decided to write a book called “As-Sawa’iqu-l-Ilahiyyah fi-r-Raddi ‘ala-l-Wahhabiyyah”. It contains a detailed refutation of his brother’s heresies, and states:

“One of the dalils showing that your path is heretic is the hadith sharif narrated by ‘Uqbah Ibn Amir and collected in the Sahihayn [Bukhari and Muslim]: ‘Rasul-Ullah (sall-Allahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) ascended the minbar, and it was the last time I saw him on the minbar. He said: ‘I do not fear that you will become mushrikuns after me, but I fear that, because of worldly interests, you will fight each others, and thus be destroyed like the peoples of old.’ The Messenger of Allah (sall-Allahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) foretold all that would happen to his Ummah until the end of the world. This hadith sharif shows that he was certain of the fact that this Ummah will never worship idols. By saying so, he destroys Wahhabism from its roots, since Wahhabi books say that Ummah al-Muhammadiyyah is involved in polytheism, that Muslim countries are full of idols, and that Muslim graves are houses of shirk. They also claim that someone who does not accept to consider mushrikuns those who ask for intercession by the graves is himself a kafir. On the contrary, Muslims have been visiting graves and asking for the intercession of awliyas for centuries. No Islamic scholar has even called such Muslims mushrikuns.

“My brother asks: ‘A hadith sharif says: “Of all that will befall you, shirk is what I fear more.” Is not this a dalil of the fact that a part of this Ummah will be engaged in shirk?’

“I say: It is inferred by many other hadiths that this hadith refers to shirku-l-asghar. There are similar hadiths, narrated by Shaddad Ibn ‘Aws, Abu Hurayrah and Mahmud Ibn Labid (may Allah be pleased with all of them), according to which the Prophet (sall-Allahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) feared that shirku-l-asghar would be committed by his Ummah. It has exactly happened as it was foretold in the hadith, and many Muslims are guilty of shirku-l-asghar. But you, in your ignorance, confuse shirku-l-asghar with shirku-l-akbar, and the tragic consequence of this mistake of yours is that you regard as ‘unbelievers’ those Muslims that do not accept to call other Muslims ‘unbelievers’.”

Another contemporary scholar, Muhammad Ibn Sulayman Effendi (ramimah-Ullah) wrote:

“O Muhammad Ibn ‘Abdi-l-Wahhab, do not slander Muslims! I admonish you for Allah’s sake! Does anyone of them says that there is a creator besides Allah? If you have anything to argue against Muslims, please, show them authoritative dalils. It is more correct to call you, a single person, ‘kafir’, than calling millions of Muslims ‘kuffars’. Ayah 114 of Surah an-Nisa’ says: ‘If anyone contends with the Messenger after guidance has been plainly conveyed to him, and follows a path other than the one followed by Believers, we shall leave him in the path he has chosen, and land him in Jahannam, quite an evil refuge!’ This ayah points to the situation of those who have departed from Ahlu-s-Sunnah wa-l-Jama‘ah.”

When the order from the Amir of Mecca reached the Khalifah in Istanbul, he ordered Muhammad ‘Ali Pashah (ramimah-Ullah), governor of Egypt to move to Najd and to stop the Wahhabi fitnah. The marauders of Ibn Sa’ud tied to attach Mecca and fought against mujahids, but Allah gave the victory to the Islamic army. Muhammad Ibn ‘Abdi-l-Wahhab was captured and sent in chains to Istanbul. A Shari‘ah court found him guilty of homicide, marauding and rebellion, while Muftis of the four madhhabs declared him to be a kafir and murtaddid.

Among Sunni ‘uleams who refuted Wahhabism we must also mention Sayyed Dawud Ibn Sulayman, Mawlana Khalid al-Baghdadi, Sun‘ Allah al-Halabi al-Makki al-Hanafi, Muhammad Ma‘sum as-Sarhindi, Muhammad Ibn Sulayman al-Madani ash-Shaf‘i, may Allah be pleased with all of them. The latter was the Shaf‘i Mufti of Medina, and was asked to write a fatwa against Muhammad Ibn ‘Abdi-l-Wahhab. This fatwa is quoted in the book “Ashaddu-l-Jihad” and says:

“This man is leading the ignoramuses of the present age to a heretical path. He is trying to extinguish Allah’s light, but Allah will not permit His light to be extinguished, in spite of the opposition of mushrikuns, and will enlighten every place with the light of Ahlu-s-Sunnah.”

As-Sayyid ‘Abdur-Rahman al-Ahdal (ramimah-Ullah), the Mufti of Zabid, said, “…in refuting them [the Wahhabis], it is sufficient to mention the hadith of the Prophet (sall-Allahu ‘alayhi wa sallam): ‘Their sign is shaving their heads’, since no other innovators had ever done it.”

The Wahhabis also call themselves the “Salafis,” believing that they follow the footsteps of the pious Salaf, i.e. the Sahabahs, the Tabi’un, and Atba’u-t-Tabi’in. The Wahhabis, however, have a route of knowledge that traces back to Muhammad Ibn ‘Abdi-l-Wahhab, the founder of the Wahhabi movement, who lived in the 1700’s M., and before him to Ibn Taymiyyah, another heretic who lived in the late 1200’s to early 1300’s M. Their route of knowledge does not trace back to the time of the Prophet Muhammad (sall-Allahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) or his pious followers whom he praised. The Wahhabis, therefore, cannot be “al-Firqatu-l-Najiyyah”, or the Saved Sect, but are one of the other 72 deviant sects within the Ummah, which the Prophet (sall-Allahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) dispraised and warned us about.

In many of his “fatawa,” Muhammad Ibn ‘Abdi-l-Wahhab labeled Muslims as “kuffars” if they did not agree to his heretical teachings, which opposed the orthodox Islamic beliefs that Muslims had been adhering to for over a thousand years (known as Ahlu-s-Sunnah wa-l-Jama‘ah). When the true Sunni Muslims disagreed with the newly formulated Wahhabi cult, the blood of countless Muslims, including plenty of scholars of Ahlu-s-Sunnah, was made halal by the command of Muhammad Ibn ‘Abdi-l-Wahhab.

Although thousands of Muslims were massacred by the deviant Wahhabis, the scholars of Ahlu-s-Sunnah continued to refute them in their books. An example is what the Mufti of Mecca, Ahmad Zayni Dahlan al-Makki ash-Shafi‘i (rahimah-Ullah) wrote in a work titled “Fitnatu-l-Wahhabiyyah”, stating:

“In 1217 H. they [the Wahhabis] marched with big armies to the area of at-Tayf. In Dhu-l-Qa‘dah of the same year, they lay siege to the area the Muslims were, subdued them, and killed the people: men, women, and children. They also looted the Muslims belongings and possessions. Only a few people escaped their barbarism.”

“They [the Wahhabis] plundered what was in the room of the Prophet (sall-Allahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), took all the money that was there, and did some disgraceful acts.”

“In 1220 H. they [the Wahhabis] lay siege to Mecca and then surrounded it from all directions to tighten this siege. They blocked the routes to the city and prevented supplies from reaching there. It was a great hardship on the people of Mecca. Food became exorbitantly expensive and then unavailable. They resorted to eating dogs.”

What better person could the British have used to fulfill their motto, i.e. “divide and conquer?” The British were laughing at Muhammad Ibn ‘Abdi-l-Wahhab and his followers for plundering, looting, and killing Muslims in the name of Islam, causing Muslims in Mecca to resort to eating dogs, in addition to fighting Muslim armies sent by the Ottomans, e.g. Muhammad ‘Ali Pashah (rahimah-Ullah) of Egypt and his army.

This was indeed a fulfillment of the interests of the British, as well as entertainment for them. Contemporary members of the Sa’ud house are descendants of Muhammad Ibn Sa’ud, the heretic who collaborated with Muhammad Ibn ‘Abdi-l-Wahhab, to cause a Muslim bloodbath in the name of “Jihad.” Their monarchy has existed since the Wahhabi movement originated, and they continue to raise the Dajjal’s banner to this very day. They have destroyed the maqams of our four Imams around al-Ka’bah, and identifying the place where the imam of salatu-l-jama‘at must stand in Masjidu-l-Haram is today quite difficult. The sanctity of al-Haram is profaned five times each day, since the Wahhabi “imams” stand too close to al-Ka‘bah, in a place that is not justified in the light of fiqh.

The discovery of oil in Saudi Arabia in the 1930’s has enabled the Saudi-Wahhabi kingdom to become rich, and their leaders have used their wealth to disseminate the Wahhabi doctrine all across the globe. They have built printing presses in Egypt, Syria, and even the United States to print beautiful books to attract the laypeople so that they may fall into their trap. The problem is that many new and naive Muslims are falling into the Wahhabi trap, and are propagating their false doctrine in Muslim Student Organizations, universities, and mosques – especially in the East Coast of the United States.

The Wahhabis are known for parroting the slogan of “Qur’an and Sunnah,” without any profound understanding of the two sources of Islam, and are known for slandering scholars of Ahlu-s-Sunnah like Imams Suyuti, Imam Abu Hamid Ghazali, Imam Nawawi, (ramimahum-Ullah) among others. The great Hanafi scholar, Imam Muhammad Amin Ibn Abidin (ramimah-Ullah), stated that the Wahhabis of today are reviving the creed of the Khawarij of the past. It is also known that the Khawarij wrongly understand the meanings of ayahs in the Qur’an and falsely attribute ayahs meant for non-Muslims to Muslims. The Wahhabis are notorious for reviving this Kharijite practice. Moreover, the Wahhabis have a passion for trying to find faults among the mujtahids such as the noble Imam Abu Hanifah, Imam Shaf‘i, Imam Malik, and Imam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal. They try to find faults in their methodologies, while they do not possess a methodology of their own. Hence, Wahhabi “scholars” who have graduated from Wahhabi universities in Saudi Arabia are never taught a methodology to enable them to understand the Qur’an and Sunnah. This is why they are in a constant state of self-contradiction, confusion, and fitnah among the Muslim population.

It is the scholars of Ahlu-s-Sunnah wa-l-Jama‘ah who must awaken the Muslims and warn them by bidding the lawful and forbidding the unlawful Wahhabi doctrine by efficient means of da‘wah. An anti-Wahhabi campaign must be formulated and strengthened to defend the Ash‘ari and Maturidi creeds, the Hanafi, Shaf‘i, Maliki, and Hanbali madhhabs, and the numerous tariqahs of tasawwuf, of which the majority of Muslim scholars have been a part of.

And all praise is for Allah, Lord of the worlds.

WARNING

Wahhabis today call themselves “Salafis,” in an attempt to confuse the Muslim masses that they adhere to the methodology of the pious Salaf, or predecessors, i.e. the Sahabahs, the Tabi’un, and Itba’u-t-Tabi’in. For example, some of the true Salaf applied ta’wil, or figurative interpretation, to Allah’s Attributes. Imam Bukhari gave a figurative interpretation of wajh to mean “Allah’s Dominion,” in Suratu-l-Qasas, ayah 88. This can be found in the Sahih of Bukhari in the Chapter “Tafsir ul-Qur’an.” Plenty of other examples exist of how the Wahhabi-Salafis oppose the practices of the true and pious Salaf.

The following writers are representatives of this cult. Their followers call them “Shaykhs”, and Muslims must stay away from their books, papers and Web pages, and do not confuse them with real Sunni scholars:

  1. Yusuf al-Qaradawi al-Misri (the one who says that salah in al-Aqsa is “haram”. He unites the errors of Wahhabis and the errors of Ikhwanis in a new form of heresy. He also claims that suicide terror attacks finalized to the assassination of civilians are “lawful” in Islam).
  2. ‘Abdu-l-‘Aziz Ibn Baz (the deceased official “Mufti” of the Saudi regime and their Rabitah, who oppressed Ahlu-s-Sunnah in al-Haramayn).
  3. Muhammad Nasiru-d-Din al-Albani (a recently disappeared pseudo-muhaddith from Albania who classified hadiths according to his unlimited fantasy and forbade women to wear golden ornament).
  4. Abu Aminah Bilal Philips (a ultra-Wahhabi from Jamaica who forges claims in the history of fiqh, full of slanders and absurd accusations against Ahlu-s-Sunnah).
  5. Muhammad Nubar Yahya Silmy (a propagandist of Wahhabism in Sri Lanka who is very much hostile to the Sunni ‘aqidah).
  6. Shiraz Mohammadali (a former Shi’ite from Sri Lanka who converted to Wahhabism and fanatically supports all of al-Albani’s heresies)
  7. Abu Bilal Mustafah al-Kanadi.
  8. Muhammad Saleh ibn Al-Uthaymin (an anthropomorphist who believes that Allah is “located in the upper direction”).
  9. Saleh Fawzan Al-Fawzan.
  10. ‘Abdur-Rahman Rosario Pasquini (an Ikhwani propagandist in Milano who, because of senescence, supports linguistic bid’at like “Allah is monopersonal” – sic! – “Muslims are islamocratics”, wa na’udhu bi-Llah, afala yatadhakkarun).

Debate between Jamshed Iqbal and Ali Sina

    14 Apr

    Dear Ali Sina,

Having come to know about your challenge to Mr. Zakir Naik and other Muslim scholars, I accept your challenge of  providing you  rational/ logical and psycho-philosophical insights to prove Mohammad’s (pbuh) genuin oneness with supreme reality and prophethood  through debate!

I accept your challenge for once, I too, used to think like you! Therefore, I know well that Mr. Zakir Naik could not answer your questions for he himslef is, what Bacon would call , ” an idol of a cave” that have no existance outside his forced abode!

Morever, I would also offer you some post-modern scientific, sociological, psychological and anthropological insights (to be weighed and considered) as well so that you could see the things in totality! The debate would be published on some blogs, including yours, to have wider public attention, feedback to value your (or mine) arguments in exchange.

I would eagerly wait for your kind mail!

    Sincere,
    Jamshed Iqbal

    Dear Ali Sina,

Thanks for your prompt response! It shows your passion and desire to engage in debate! It is a healthy sign if the debate, as well, is going to be healthy one!

Well, I had cc-ed my previous mail to Indian Muslim Blog and Sunni News and Blog in Delhi. I am hopeful that they would readily publish our debate. However, some of the publishers, in Pakistan & NL would also be interested as they have been publishing my works previously! I will get the debate published after we have reached some conclusion!

    You asked for my bio-date:

Well, I have been teaching English Literature and Western Philosophy in some universities. Moreover, I think, I pondered seriously on the conditions and questions of human life on this solitary hospitable planet. Peaceful coexistence of human family has been my main concerns of thought and writings. For last few years, I am working on Encyclopedia of Western Thought with the , so-called, oriental viewpoint. The encyclopedia is going to come out next year.

Moreover, before proceeding, we must settle some norms for our debate. I think, it should not be just point-scoring or ego-strutting! We, as  members of human family and meaning-seeking creatures, would try to solve the puzzle of our existence with some perennial and ever-fresh questions before us……..

I heartily wish you best of luck!

    Sincere,

    Jamshed Iqbal

    ———————————————————————————————-

     Dear Jamshed Iqbal

I don’t know how many of my articles you have read. If you read enough you’d know that the reason I think Islam must go is because it is a doctrine that does not allow peaceful co-existance.

Let us say there is a religion with the following teachings. Do you think you can have any peaceful co-existence with the followers of that religion?

We will cast terror into the hearts of Muslims. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them. 8:12
Let not the non-Muslims take for friends or helpers the Muslims. 3:28,
Rouse the non-Muslims to the fight against Muslims.
    8:65,
Then fight and slay the Muslims wherever ye find them,
    9:5,
Fight the Muslims, and God will punish them by your hands, cover them with shame.
    9:14 ,
O ye the non-Muslims take not for protectors your fathers and your brothers if they love Islam.
    9:23,
O ye the non-Muslims! Truly the Muslims are unclean.
    9:28,
O ye non-Muslims! fight the Muslims who gird you about, and let them find firmness in you.
    9:123,
Therefore, when ye meet the Muslims, smite at their necks; At length.
    47:4,

I hope you agree that such religion has no right to exist, that its followers must be re-educated or if they persist they should be separated from the rest of mankind to maintain peace.

Anyway, I have had many debates with Muslims who at first were confident that they know more and they can easily prove me wrong. The strength of their faith (which is a vice and not a virtue) was no substitute to the strength of their argument.

For more than a decade I have debated thousands of Muslims. I assure you there is no argument that has not been discussed already. Repetition of the same is not exciting. So I require those who wish to debate with me, to at least familiarize themselves with my arguments.

I suggest you read my book first and only after you know my views we should engage in debate. I know your views. There is nothing in Islam that I do not know. I was born a Muslim and studied it thoroughly.  I am among very few people who understand Islam. This does not mean I have more knowledge about every detail of Islam. But I understand Islam and Muhammad better than most people and all the Muslims.

So I request that you read my book first. If then you think you have found some flaws in my arguments, I would be glad to listen to you. If you want to tell me things that I have already discussed, there is no point in debating. All you have to do is read more and you will get your answer.

Are you willing to read my book? I don’t want you to buy it. I will send it to you as ebook. A lot of people who read my book left Islam as the result. You may also end up doing the same. By the time you reach half of the book you’ll start doubting everything you were told about Islam and by the time you finish it you will no longer call yourself a Muslim.
However, if any of the sites you sent the Cc of this email agree to publish our debate right from the start as it proceeds, I would drop that requirement and will debate with you right way. This would make the debate a lot more interesting because the end result will not be known until the very end. Since you are confident that Islam has all the answers, I am sure you’d all welcome my proposal. I am willing to publish our debate as it proceeds.
    Regards
    Ali Sina .

     2009/3/14 (18.25)

Thank you for publishing our debate. I would be more than glad to take part in this discussion. Now how can we proceed? You can just write a rebuttal to one of my claims. Or you can answer the question that I asked above. I quoted a few verses from the sacred book of a new religion called Malsi. As you can see this faith teaches Muslims are filthy, they should be killed, they are fuel for hell, they are pigs and monkeys, and it encourages its followers to fight against the Muslims, strike their heads and be very harsh with them. Ironically, the Malsians, the followers of Malsi claim their religion promotes peace and they want peaceful co-existence with Muslims. I would like you to instruct me how to respond to these people? I tell them if they want peaceful co-existence they should purge their holy book from all those evil teachings. What I quoted is just the tip of the iceberg. Wait until you read the book. It is full of hate against Muslims. Many Malsians, following the teachings of their prophet, are constantly killing Muslims, burning the mosques have no mercy even on Muslim children. Other Malsians however, repeat ad nauseam that Malsi Faith is a beautiful religion of peace and that it is misunderstood. What do you think we should tell these people? Don’t you agree that they are misguided at best and evil at worst, that their faith is false and they need to be weaned from their faith of hate? Do you think Muslims can have any peaceful co-existence with Malsians while they hold their book of hate and terror sacrosanct? All the best Ali

    Hello Mr. Jamshed Iqbal,

Will you kindly send me your bio and let me know which blog will publish our debate?

    Best Regards

    Ali Sina

    Deare Ali Sina,

Please remember, I accepted your debate challenge:

§  To prove Mohammad’s (pbuh) genuine oneness with Supreme Reality  &

§  Reality of his prophetic experience! (plz go through my previous message)

It meant that my position, in the debate was supposed to be affirmative one, and yours, the other way round. The other point I made clear was that:

§  It should not be just point-scoring or ego-strutting! &

§  We, as members of human family and meaning-seeking creatures, would try to solve the puzzle of our existence with some perennial and ever-fresh questions before us……..

Let me clear you certain points. Problem of the prophet-hood is the question of means, sources and ends of knowledge—the question of epistemology in scholarly terms. Here you were supposed to announce your “position” by clearing, what according to you distinguishes adequate knowledge from inadequate (false) knowledge To lay the basis of your conclusion that Mohammad (pbuh) was ***—**** (nauzu billah).   You would have to choose one position among some possibilities:

§  Putting more emphasis on logical and empirical methods, stressing that knowledge is an apprehension of necessary and universal principles. (causal determinism, empirical materialism: Aristotelian position)

§  You had other option to declare that, ” knowledge is merely an awareness of absolute, universal Ideas or Forms, existing independent of any subject trying to apprehend to them” (Idealism: Platonic position)

§  Knowledge is the product of sensory perception, and rationalism which sees it as the product of rational reflection (Post-renaissance scientific empiricism)

§  Knowledge results from a kind of mapping or reflection of external objects, through our sensory organs, possibly aided by different observation instruments, to our brain or mind. (reflection-correspondence theory: if you adopted that position you would have to enter into the mazy realm of language and its relation to reality towards Structuralism & Post structuralism)

§  Knowledge is an empirical statement which comes from analytical truth (Comte’s position: Logical Positivism)

Please, honestly, go through my last messages and see if you had any understanding of my position I declared in the very first message! Please see clearly if you have any understanding of your own position! What you put forward is quite irrelevant at this stage. For:

§  We were to see the issue in light of some perennial and ever-fresh questions (see my first message wherein I discussed about the norms)

What are these perennial questions? The “umbrella question” is “what is truth”. All the branches of sciences and philosophy, in some way or other, have this one question before them.  Human beings responded their impulse to know the truth in four distinctive ways:

    1.       Mythmaking (with the aid of imagination of symbolism)

    2.       Philosophy (with the aid of reason)

    3.       Science (Analysis and apparatus)

    4.       Religion (empathy and intuition)

I am sorry my friend you have even no idea as what the debate is about! What areas of knowledge or disciplines our debate falls in! or even how to debate on these issues!

You were right in inviting Mr. Zakir Naik for he was your good match! And your whole knowledge abut Islam is based on the understandings of Zakir Naiks! You have never been fortunate enough to see those who live Islam or those who found Islam!

You and Zakir Naiks are, in principle, sailing in the same boat—they do not know what they are defending and you don’t know what you are criticizing! Both of you are perspective-less—but perspective is everything!

It goes without saying that you have never bothered to ponder upon these problems quite seriously. Please ask yourself this question in some honest moment!  Or you left them for they were far beyond your observational understanding badly entangled somewhere else? So your intellect remained dormant (it tells)—and it was entangled in minor things—in phenomenal world or appearance that is always deceptive!

I am sorry my friend, you have lost the debate before it started! However, I am giving you thirty years’ grace period to let your intellect ripe! To let these perennial questions pinch  the sleep from your eyes and pinch rest from your soul—to let your bones melt in pangs of wonder and doubt until you get a peace of truth within you! I pray for that peace for you!

I would salute your honestly if you publish this comment on your blog as well! I would even acknowledge your integrity if you stop challenging Muslim scholars for debate! I would even adore you as a friend if you, honestly, rub out from your heart the prejudice that is product of your myopic understanding!  I assure you Mohammad (pbuh) is lovingly offering you a priceless treasure but you are refusing it for your gaze is tenaciously fixed on filth! And one is there where one’s gaze rests!

I have nothing more to say. I will debate when you are ripe! For its question to save the humanity!

           Sincere,

       Jamshed Iqbal

    2009/04/16  (8:10)

      Dear Jamshed Iqbal,

Please remember that it was you who accepted my challenge. Did you read it before accepting it? My challenge is simple and clear. I have stated that Muhammad was not a prophet of God . I have also laid a series of charges against that man that disqualify him as a good man let alone a prophet.  You said “I accept your challenge” and promised to provide “rational/ logical and psycho-philosophical insights to prove Mohammad’s (pbuh) genuine oneness with supreme reality and prophethood through debate!”

To put it in a simple language, you said you would provide proof that Muhammad was a true messenger of God. I’d love to hear that proof. Where is it?

I asked you a simple question.  The question is how can a man****  Muhammad claimed to be the best of the creation and a perfect example to follow.  Were his actions exemplary? They were not. So how can such a man guide mankind to good deeds.

You want to discuss epistemology. Who cares whether knowledge is an apprehension of universal principles, an awareness of absolute, a product of sensory perception, or the result of analytical reflection?

Whatever the nature of knowledge, it does not diminish the abhorrence of the acts of Muhammad. It cannot also justify the absurdities of the Quran.  Muslims are killing innocent people everywhere. Since 9/11 there have been over 12000 terrorist attacks. That is an average of five per day. People die as the result. And you want to talk about epistemology?  This is red herring. What the hell does the nature of truth has to do with the fact that Muslims are terrorists?

Okay, so my intellect is dormant. Can you please awaken it by telling us how your questions on epistemology change the  verses of the Quran? I did ponder on these questions Sir. But they have nothing to do with the claim of Muhammad. They are intellectual musings, luxuries allowed to those who live in freedom, something Islam wants to take away.

Islam promotes ignorance. Because of Islam Muslims cannot progress. They are filled with hatred of everyone and want to kill and destroy. They are reduced into beasts. Yes beasts. If one has no empathy for other humans, he is a beast and not a human.  Now these beasts have atomic bomb. As the result the world has become powder keg. Mankind has never been more in danger of extinction as it is today. So much stupidity and hatred is thought in the madrassas of Pakistan that that country is about to fall in the hands of the Taliban any time. When that happens, it would be the end. It won’t be just non-Muslims who will die, Pakistan and Iran will be obliterated. And you want to talk about epistemology?

In your second email you wrote “I pondered seriously on the conditions and questions of human life on this solitary hospitable planet. Peaceful coexistence of human family has been my main concerns of thought and writings.”

What do you think is threatening the peaceful coexistence of human family? Is it because people don’t agree on the nature of knowledge or is it because a fifth of people follow a man who told them kill the disbelievers wherever you find them (2:191), murder them and treat them harshly (9:123), fight with them (8:65 ), strive against them with great endeavor (25:52), be stern with them because they belong to hell (66:9) and strike off their heads; then after making a “wide slaughter among them, carefully tie up the remaining captives” for ransom (47:4)?

Were those men who hijacked four planes and  killed 3000 innocent people angry because their victims did not know that “knowledge is merely an awareness of absolute,” or did they do it because their prophet told them slay the unbelievers(9:5), no other religion but Islam  is accepted (3:85), the unbelievers are  najis  (9:28), so fight them and kill them until no other religion except Islam is left (2:193)?

Dear Jamhed, what you call “peace of truth,” is peace of ignorance.  I quote the young AlwaysAisha who explains this eloquently. She wrote, “After my conversion, I felt a sense of peace and happiness that I had never before experienced in my life, and hope to never experience again. This was the peace that came with knowing with full certainty that I was in the right path. Knowing that there was a Creator who was watching over me and who had a plan for me. Knowing that He had in his infinite mercy bestowed me with the Qur’an, an instruction manual for life so that from now on I could always know the right choice and be certain of my decisions. Knowing that earthly problems did not matter at all, because this life would eventually be over and then I could look forward to paradise.”

She came to her senses and realized that this peace was gained through numbing her senses and silencing her intelligence. Shun this peace. Today you are alive; you must be inquisitive and learn. A time will come when your heart will no longer beat and your mind will be at peace, but until then avoid that peace like a plague. Bertrand Russell said, “The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.” The certainty and peace you attain through faith is the certainty of foolishness.

I did publish all your emails. I see the Islamic site http://www.sunninews.co.cc/ where our debate was publish is not accessible. I hope it is a tecnical problem and that page will be back with the new addition. Please also provide the link to this pagehttp://www.faithfreedom.org/2009/04/14/jamshed-iqbal-vs-ali-sina/

This is the 21st century and these educated Muslims believe the Earth is flat because the Quran says so and the Quran cannot be wrong.

This is the sad reality of the Ummah.

    Greetings to all.

Earlier today I wrote to Jamshed Iqbal, and to my surprise he wrote back. Here is our exchange:

    Dear Mr Iqbal

I have just read the final installment of your debate with Ali Sina, and I would like to ask you a question.

Mr Sina opened the debate with a very simple argument, which was to posit a fictional religion whose principal tenets were the hatred, vilification and persecution of Muslims. His question then was, What would you think of such a religion and what would you say to its followers?

What is it about this simple question that you find so difficult?

I notice that you claim to have won the debate, when it is clear to everyone that you didn’t even trouble to take part in it.

    Dearest Fisk,

It was in fact a cross question to avoid real question! The real question was about the condition of Enlightenment and genuine prophetic/spiritual experience. I just asked him to declare his position (atheist, agnostic or what???) but he is beating about the bush! His was not a question but an evasive technique.

He wants others to run on the track he is habitual to run on…One who does not even know what to talk about….and what not and how….Whose position is only hatred…and, ironically, he claims to fight against hatred!

What he is doing is just point scoring or showing is only ego-defensive attitude! May be to his loyality to his funders at the cost of being faithful to humanity at large! At the cost of our hospitable home—the earth! This is the common problem with Charlatans or hate-mongers…
I request you to make him declare his position……so that we could go ahead! And please advice him to move away from puffed cliches! This is the matter of life of human family….this is the matter of upcoming innocent angels……not a joke!

The issue we are to decide collectively (as human beings) is locating the source of violence! He says, they are Muslims… is not it a sweeping generalization..and logically speaking…these kinds of generalizations are always wrong! They make healthy debate impossible! Violence is “shared characteristic” of human kind….it is the product of id….it is what we learnt from caves and tribes! We, humans, are basically cave or tribal species! and to be civilized human, one needs to surpass id.And Religion (I am not talking about only Islam…Islam is one of the religions) was, actually, a device to drive it away from within!

I would request you express your comments on his site for it would become difficult for me to answer hundreds of friends…you wrote and thought it improper not to answer you!

    Sincerely yours,

    Jamshed Iqbal

    Hello Jamshed.

You say I avoided the real question, which was “the condition of Enlightenment and genuine prophetic/spiritual experience.”

I am the one who posed the question and challenged Muslims to answer me. You are the one who accepted that challenge. It is you who has to answer my question and not the other way round.

So you want to talk about the “condition of Enlightenment and genuine prophetic/spiritual experience.” What would that prove? Would it prove that Muhammad was a real prophet of God.Please go ahead and prove it. Give me one solid irrefutable evidence that this man was not making things up, and what he said can be proven to be truthful and without resorting to logical fallacies.

If you can provide that proof, I will drop all my charges against him.

Let us say that you can prove Muhammad knew things no one knew. (I heard a lot of such claims, such as the Quran is a mathematical wonder or it has foretold about all the inventions and discoveries. All of them are wishful thinking of Muslims with wild imagination.) Does that prove that that knowledge came from God?

This question is important. The answer lies in the deeds of Muhammad.  So assuming you prove Muhammad had extraordinary powers, you still have not proven that he was indeed a prophet of God.

However, let us not even go there because there is no proof that Muhammad had any knowledge that ordinary men of his time did not have.

However, if it is important, and you can’t prove the truth of Muhammad without knowing my position, let me make it simple for you. For the sake of argument I accept whatever is your definition of God. I even agree that Allah, the same deity that was worshipped by the Meccans prior to Muhammad, and the same god that sent Jesus, as Muhammad claimed, is the real God.  Now I want you to prove that Muhammad was a messenger of this Allah. Please provide evidence that he did not make up the whole thing to fool the gullible and make them wage war for him and make him rich and powerful.

I am not asking you to prove God. I even recite the first part of shahadah. Ashhado in la ilah illa Allah. Happy? Now please prove that Muhammad was Rasool Allah.

You keep talking about humanity and the need for peaceful co-existence while at the same time you believe in a book that calls for the massacre of all non-Muslims and the submission and subjugation of all mankind.  There is a cognitive dissonance between what you profess with your mouth and what you actually believe as your faith. How can you talk of peaceful co-existence when you think words such as “the unbelievers are filthy, the Jews are pigs, the non-Muslims are the worst creatures in the sight of Allah, slay them wherever you find them,” are divine teachings?

Can you have peaceful co-existence with the Malsians whose sacred book mirrors the Quran and incites hatred against the Muslims?  You did not answer this question? Would you say that Malsi religion is a peaceful religion?

No! Violence is NOT“shared characteristic” of humankind. People become violent when exposed to violent teachings. Yes, violence dose also have psychological components, such as greed, envy, anger, etc. all byproducts of low self-esteem. However, crowds have a psychology of their own and they can become violent through external influences.  We do not expect to see violent behavior among a crowd coming out of a church, a synagogue, a Hindu or a Buddhist temple, or a Zoroastrian or a Baha’i gathering. But if I see a crowd coming out of a mosque towards me, I will run as fast as I can.

Non violent people can become violent when they believe in violent teachings. If religion had no effect in how we humans behave, then what is the point of having religion at all? The very purpose of religion is to influence people and make them do things their way.  If their way is peaceful, the believers are likely to behave peacefully and if it is violent, the believers will act violently.

Let us hear now what proof you can present to make us believe that Muhammad was a genuine, prophet.

Another Sunni Leader is gunned down in Pakistan

    21 Feb

QUETTA: Unidentified men killed Jamaat Ahl-e-Sunnat Wal Jamaat-Noorani provincial leader Maulana Iftikhar Ahmed Habibi in Quetta on Wednesday, sparking a wave of protests.

Police said Habibi, who was also a regular Islamic commentator on the Pakistan Television (PTV), was killed by unidentified men when he was on his way to work. Habibi was driving to the PTV Quetta station when the men opened fire, killing him instantly.

His relatives took the body to the Governor’s House to protest. The protesters chanted slogans against the police and demanded the arrest of the culprits. The police resorted to aerial firing in order to disperse them and took around 14 protesters into custody.

No group has claimed responsibility for the murder.

“This is an act of sectarianism carried out by those who had previously threatened to kill Habibi,” Mir Abdul Qudoos Sasooli, the provincial president of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan (JUP), said. “The murder was carried out by the activists of banned organisations which are operating now under new names,” he said, giving the Balochistan government a 72-hour ultimatum to arrest the murderers.

The JUP will observe a Balochistan-wide strike on Thursday (today) to protest against the murder. Sasooli appealed to traders and the people to observe a shutter-down strike as a protest against Habibi’s assassination and express their solidarity with the JUP in Balochistan.

He said the JUP would contact the Anjuman-e-Tajiran Balochistan to ensure the strike was a success, APP reported. Habibi was a regular commentator of Balochi and Brahvi languages on PTV. His friends said the slain leader had been threatened in the past but the police had not provided him any security.

Sunni Muslims demand ban of Zakir Naik’s talk

    13 Nov

    Salman ansari/DNA

On November 8, 2008, members of India’s premier Sunni Muslim organisation, Raza Academy came together to demand a ban on Zahir Naik’s programme ‘Insaniyat Ke Liye Hal’ to be held from November 14-23 at Somaiya grounds.

Maulana Ashraf Raza of the Darul-Uloom Hanfia Rizvia, Colaba also issued a fatwa against Naik. Members alleged that Naik had made derogatory statements about Islam’s prophet. Maulanas from the All India Sunni Tableeq Community were present.
Members complained that on many occasions Naik had urged crowds to pray to Allah alone instead of Prophet Mohammed Paigambar, as he claims the prophet is human.

They also alleged that Naik had praised, Yazid, the murderer of Imam Hussein. Saeed Noori, general secretary of Raza Academy said, “Naik has been very indifferent about Osama Bin Laden. He hasn’t said anything about Osama, even though we see him as a terrorist.”

Ebrahim Tahil, member of the academy said, “He earlier targeted Christians and is now against Sunni Muslims. We have met with RR Patil and KL Prasad urging them to ban the programme.”  He added, “We want to know from where Naik gets his funds?”

What if the ban is not enforced? Noori said, “Maulanas from the Sunni community plan to confront Naik on his knowledge of Islam before the public during the programme.”
DNA tried getting in touch with Naik, but he was unavailable for comment.

    Sufism, Wahabism and Kashmiriyat

    1 Nov

I enjoyed reading Badri Raina’ article, “J&K Heal and Renew” (Mainstream, New Delhi, August 30, 2008, pp. 11-13). He appears to write poetry in lucid prose, aimed straight for the heart, when he describes Kashmiri syncretism between the Muslim and Hindu faiths, its past and fraying present. I hope that his message touches the heart of the common Kashmiri man, but I am afraid it may not. Here are the reasons why I think the message may miss the mark. Raina says (ibid.):

“…some Sunni Muslim groups propagate… That Muslims are enjoined, as in Arab countries, to follow the pristine Salafi/Wahabi path which forbids notions of personal discovery of godhead, the ethic of eros, music, worship at Sufi dargahs, esctatic ritual, commingling with non-believers, and so on.”

He clearly implies that ‘personal discovery of godhead’ and the Sufi practices are a non-Arab phenomenon, and the Salafi/Wahabi path followed by the Arabs is the pure form of Islam. This is exactly what the Wahabis are saying and it is a monstrous lie. His statement would only help the separatist and Wahabi cause, because he portrays by implication the Sufi way as an impure way, not being among the fundamentals of original Islam. This type of ignorant chatter has become a constant factor in the Indian media, and it confuses the common Muslim man. He too has started thinking that Sufism is an impure importation into Islam. Why does Raina have to add force to the propagation of this untruth? If this was not his intention, he should have been more careful in his presentation.

Fristly, all Arab countries do not follow Wahabi Islam. Even the region which is now Saudi Arabia and Gulf countries had been steeped in Sufism before the advent of Wahabism in the 18th century. One just has to read the famous stories of Hatim Tai to get proof of this. Right now there are many well established Sufi orders in the North African Arab states, Syria and Iraq.

Secondly, Sufism is to be found among the fundamentals of Islam. Wahabism’s claim to be the pristine form of Islam is a false claim, I am going to show in the following paragraphs.

Sufis draw inspiration from the central Quranic doctrine of ‘Tauhid’ meaning unity of existence. “Direct seeing” or intuitive personal realisation is at the core of Sufism. Annmarie Scimmel in her Mystical Dimensions of Islam (University of North Carolina Press, Chapel Hill, 1975) has traced the roots of Sufism to the Quran and Sunnah, the tradition of the Prophet. J.S. Trimingham says in his Sufi Orders of Islam (Oxford at the Clarendon Press, 1971):

“Sufism was a natural development within Islam, owing little to non-Muslim sources, though receiving radiations from the ascetical mystical life and thought of Eastern Christianity.”

This is the most accurate assessment, judging by the fact that Jesus, the prophet of Christianity, is also one of the respected prophets of Islam and Syrian Christian mystics use a language with certain commonality with Islamic terms. This is natural since both religions in Syria use the Arabic language. Sufi orders abound in Syria and Iraq. In North Africa too from Morocco to Egypt and Sudan there are tens of flourishing Sufi orders, and I request Raina to refer to a graphic chart given by Trimingham (ibid.) that gives the lineage and names of all these orders. All schools (silsila) of Sufism trace their root to Hasan Basri (AD 728, belonging to Basra in Iraq) and through him to the companions of the Prophet of Islam. Among the companions were a group of people called Ahle Suffah or ‘people of the bench’. They had given up all worldly possessions and had no wife or child. One of the prominent Sufi orders of North Africa is the Shahdilliyya. Ibn Ata Allah of this order in the 14th century wrote a treatise on the ‘Jujiyya’ method describing all 84 poses of the Indian Yoga system. It should be noted that the famous 13th century scholar, Al Beruni, had translated Patanjali’s Yogasutra along with many Sanskrit scientific texts. Hindu influences did reach the Arab Sufis but not before Al Beruni. There had been Sufi orders in Saudi Arabia and Gulf countries too. But they were destroyed by the Wahabi sect who rose in the 18th century. Kamal Ataturk of Turkey confiscated all the pro-perties of the Sufi Khanekas in his secularisation drive and the Sufi orders of Turkey went into a decline, but not for long. Since then there is strong revival of the Mevleviyya order started by the famous Maulana-cum-Sufi, Jalaluddin Rumi or Maulana Rum, well known for his mystical poetry written in Persian.

Buddhist influences did reach the Arab world prior to arrival of prophet Hazrat Mohammad. He seems to have given his seal of approval to the continuance of some of them. For instance, consider going round and round the shrine at Mecca seven times by the Haj pilgrim. Circumam-bulation or parikrama of a shrine, and that seven times, is not inherited from Chrstianity or Judaism. It was carried to Central and West Asia by the Buddhists. Again consider the dress code of the Haj pilgrim. He shaves his head and wraps an unstitched white cloth round his waist and over his left shoulder, exactly in the fashion of a Buddhist monk. Shaving the head or wearing an unstitched cloth is not a part of the Judaic-Christian tradition. So how and wherefrom did it arrive in Arabia? Once I saw a photograph of what appeared to be a Buddhist monk in The Gurardian, a noted news daily of the UK, only to read the caption, “Prince Abdullah of Jordan in Haj”. If these Buddhist influences are a taint then both the Wahabi and Sufi are tainted by it.

    Kashmiriyat

EVERYONE, including Raina, talks about Kashmiriyat but no one pays attention to the development of the Kashmiri language. Urdu as the medium of education (even in the primaries) and administration rules the roost in Kashmir. Yet in census after census the Kashmiri Muslim returns his mother-tongue as Kashmiri. Contrast this with the behaviour of Muslims in Andhra and Karnataka; the common Muslim man in the street speaks a fractured version of Urdu/Hindustani, in a southern accent, sprinkled with Telugu or Canara words and expressions. Yet he returns his mother-tongue as Urdu in every census. The syncretic Kashmiri traditions are contained in the folkores and poetry of Lal Ded (Lalla Yogeshwari) and Sufi Nuruddin Noorani (Nand Rishi). The modern generation is losing this tradition because they do not know Kashmiri, particularly so in the cities. It is the urban youth which is in the vanguard of all political parties as well as militancy. To conclude, traditional Islam consists of the Sufi’s tariqa (spiritual path) and Ulema’s sharia (the law), in a delicate bi-polar balance. Wahabism is a maverick form of Islam, a new arrival, which negates Sufism and has tried in the past to wipe out Sufi orders by mayhem and persecution. Traditional Kashmiriyat consists of Sufism and Kashmiri folk literature. The separatists are systematically striking at these two roots, but syncretists are ill organised and often make statements which help the separatist case.

Don’t brand Muslims as terrorists: Ibrahim

    21 Oct

Mangalore : “There are about 20 crore Muslims in India and if about 100 persons are involved in terrorist activities, why do you brand all Muslims as terrorists?” questioned former minister C M Ibrahim. Speaking to media persons here on Sunday, he said that Islam never encourages terrorism and there is no link between Islam and terrorism. Flaying the arrests of innocents, Mr Ibrahim warned that there are all possibilities of such people turning a criminal after they were released. He also flayed the police for conducting repeated narco-analysis tests on same persons (especially when the police fail to get any evidence), and said that there are records to prove that the repeated tests have serious mental imbalance on the person. He also appealed to the media to give equal publicity when a person arrested on some charges is released after he is proved innocent. Speaking on the occasion, All India Sunni Scholars’ Federation General Secretary A P Aboobakker Musliyar Kanthapuram sought to know how a religion is responsible if some persons have done some mischief. Stating that terrorism is an enemy of humanity, he called upon the youth to fight against evil forces. At the same time, he regretted that Muslims are made scapegoats in the name of Jehad. He also urged the authorities concerned not to arrest the innocent youth in the name of “suspected terrorists.”

Islamic Cultural Centre Chairman Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi regretted that Muslim terrorists who are hardly about 100 in number were bringing disgrace to a population of 20 crore Muslims in India. “Their indiscriminate killings of innocents are polarising the whole society. Consequently, the Muslims are losing their jobs and finding it difficult to get houses for rent,” he said and added that more depressing fact is that they tarnish the image of Islam by misquoting the holy text.
